Rug Tufting - Make your own cushion
Power-assisted tufting - yeah, baby!
Service Description
Larkswold is incredibly excited to be one of the very few locations outside of London to be able to offer this exciting new craft. Tufting is a form of rug making used to make cushions, framed artwork and yes...rugs. With the aid of a power-assisted tufting machine you push yarn through a woven backing cloth at high speed, producing fluffy tactile textiles. Before the session think about the design you want to create and Ellie your tutor can make sure it's achieveable and that she has all the colours you need. It is also worth considering whether you want your creation to be a cushion cover (which can be finished during the session) or stretched onto a canvas. What to expect in this workshop: You will make a 40x40cm tufted rug artwork, which can be turned into a cushion, mini rug or wall hanging. We'll guide you through the essentials of using a tufting machine and get you tufting in no time! During the session: • Design: Draw your design onto the backing fabric • Variety of Yarns: Explore a wide range of yarn types and colours to make your design pop • Introduction to a Cut Pile Tufting Machine • Tufting Techniques: Learn the skills to create beautiful tufted pieces What you need to bring/ prepare: • Simple block-colour design ideas - You will begin the day by designing a simple block design and learning how visually translate it into a tufted fibre design. It is great to start planning ideas before the workshop, (email elliecarrsmith.studio@gmail.com at least a week prior with any design queries) • We have a range of yarn colours to tuft and experiment with, but if you have a very particular colour in mind, you are welcome to bring your own yarn along (we recommend aran weight wool) What's included: • All tools and materials & lunch This workshop involves a lot of physical activity including standing and pulling.
