- Botanical Collage - July summer special
Explore the technique of paper collage in a summer evening workshop, creating mini botanical studies in a pressed meadow flower themed session with Penny Lindner… and yes! These pictures really are made from paper and aren't actually real pressed flowers! Penny says, 'I made a conscious decision to reuse existing materials for my artwork in recent years. Colour magazines and newspaper provide the ideal medium to create collages that not only interpret my vision but also demonstrate I could achieve depth and texture with torn paper applied with a water-based glue.' Suitable for all ages (11 upwards) and abilities, this is a brilliant craft and easy to continue at home. Your workshop includes everything you need to create your chosen botanical pieces, and you can purchase a hanging glass frame on the day if you desire. All our evening workshops include a Larkswold Cocktail (alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions) alongside some savoury vegetarian nibbles. Our bar will be open for any additional purchases Wednesday 22nd July 7-9pm
- Mosaic (Full day)
The world of Mosaic styles, materials and projects is vast. We know ourselves how some Mosaic pieces take longer than others, or maybe we just want to spend all day on them to enjoy the process. If you would like to spend the day with us, we include our usual homemade lunch as well as all the cake & refreshments you can squeeze in while you work. You may choose to keep cutting and placing tiles onto your project until the last minute, or use the longer day to completely finish your piece and grout your mosaic while in the studio - it's up to you and you can decide on the day. You will learn how to create using the 'Direct Method' of Mosaic onto an MDF board. Using a 20cmx 20cm base you can create a mosaic suitable to be your door plaque, a trivet in your kitchen or maybe a stunning piece of wall art for your home. If you somehow complete that project you are welcome to make additional pieces It is worth thinking about what you would like to create: an animal, a pattern or perhaps a house number? As always, Pinterest is a wonderful place to investigate as well as our images on this site. This workshop is suitable for beginners and those wanting to enjoy making mosaics with a group of other creative peeps. All materials are included as well as refreshments, cake and lunch. - Rug Tufting - cushion or art piece
Larkswold is incredibly excited to be one of the very few locations outside of London to be able to offer this exciting new craft. Tufting is a form of rug making used to make cushions, framed artwork and yes...rugs. With the aid of a power-assisted tufting machine you push yarn through a woven backing cloth at high speed, producing fluffy tactile textiles. Before the session think about the design you want to create and Ellie your tutor can make sure it's achieveable and that she has all the colours you need. It is also worth considering whether you want your creation to be a cushion cover (which can be finished during the session) or stretched onto a canvas. What to expect in this workshop: You will make a 40x40cm tufted rug artwork, which can be turned into a cushion, mini rug or wall hanging. We'll guide you through the essentials of using a tufting machine and get you tufting in no time! Join us in the Larkswold studio for a calming, hands-on experience to create your own floral plaster cast using fresh flowers & foliage. Perfect for all skill levels, this hands-on workshop provides a mindful escape and a beautiful, one-of-a-kind artwork to take home. Run by the serenely calm and knowledgeable Annabel from Honeybourne Pottery, the workshop begins with a relaxed, step-by-step demonstration, where you’ll learn how to prepare and roll out clay to form the base for your artwork. Next, you’ll be guided on arranging flowers and foliage on the clay’s surface, pressing them in to best capture all their delicate textures and details. Feel free to bring cuttings from your own garden for a personal touch. Alternatively, you are welcome to forage in the Larkswold garden and field to collect items to use.
