Macmillan and Mood Gauge

This week we have mostly been failing as domestic goddesses but you can’t be perfect all the time...not even Emma!

Mood, Macmillan coffee morning and domestic goddess failures!

Brrrr, and a little bit brrrr and I actually love it. I am not a lover of being cold, but this weather has got me pulling on colourful tights, winter boots and locating my corduroy pinafore. My friend Sandra and I are ‘at one with the earth’ and have been going to the gym, doing Couch to 5K, yoga and swimming at 7am every morning (I say that’s just showing off - Emma) and although it is chuffing cold when you step out; the sunshine and joy of getting back in and having a hot shower afterwards makes it all worth while.

Support us and enjoy cake

So with all that exercise I feel totally justified in looking forward to eating lots of yummy cake at our Macmillan coffee morning which will be in the studio

  • Thursday 26th September 10am-1pm

We will be raffling off a Larkswold workshop, offering a little tote bag block printing in the studio and pottery painting for anyone who wants to play; and of course enjoying tea and cake.

Silver Clay - Wednesday 25th September 2-5pm

Emptier nests

The day has finally come when our oldest girls start travelling off to start their next big adventures at university. Jess (Emma's daughter) leaves tomorrow with a packed car laden down with a sewing machine, a few pots and pans and all the other paraphernalia needed to create her new life in halls at Kingston to begin her Fashion Design BA. Good luck Jess, and remember, however hard you are finding it - your mother is finding it way harder - she has already started over-mothering guests in the studio by doing their ironing in our lampshade workshop today.

Mood gauge

Emma has equipped herself with a useful mood gauge to help me know when she requires:

a) Me to rein in my verbal diarrhoea

b) To eat cake

c) All is well and normal service may continue

So as Jess goes to University tomorrow we have agreed its a mid mood day which will require additional cake and possibly even a glass of bubbly later!

Jo (my daughter) comes back from a little trip to France today and trolleys off to Cardiff next Saturday. I have joined every freshers week app, Facebook and Instagram feed (Tiger-Mum alert! Emma) and shall continue driving her insane with all the exciting clubs and events she should go to - that actually I really want to go to l, but would be a little weird for me to attend due to not actually being a student at the University!

Weekend in the studio

We have a super busy weekend ahead with Ceramic Hares being created both Saturday and Sunday, Glass Fusing and Silversmithing l, so of course Emma and I both have been failing on our domestic goddess credentials this morning - me forgetting to add key ingredients to my cake and Em using the wrong size tin resulting in a big sunken sponge! Honestly, how an earth do we even get ourselves dressed in the morning on our own?

But do not fear - cakes have been remade and there will be plenty of yummy Larkswold sweet treats available for guests.

So whatever you are up to, enjoy your weekend, think of the emotionally stretched Emma on her way to Kingston, and we hope to see you at our Macmillan coffee morning if you are able.

Melinda
