Skill Level: To attend this session you will need to have done a previous hand broom or brush workshop Age: 18+ (or 16+ with a responsible adult) Gather together in the magical Larkswold creative space and weave your own hawktail hand broom in this intimate 3 hour workshop! Hawktails are similar to hens wing and turkey wing brushes in construction but require a little more experience to achieve a well-balanced and symmetrical shape. Numbers will be kept low so each student receives the support required. Students will choose hanger type, fibre colour and twine colour for a broom that is unique to you. A beautiful and traditional brush for cleaning small spaces! Students should already be familiar with the fundamentals of handcrafted heritage brooms (a pre-industrial craft that uses no machinery or electricity) and have an understanding of fibre processing and the handling of various twine types. These pretty brooms are perfect for smaller spaces: potting sheds, artist studios, kitchen counters, camper vans, hearths, and bookshelves - keep any small space tidy and looking lush! Please note: broom making is a surprisingly physical craft and each broom is constructed in one sitting with one continuous length of twine. Students should be prepared to work with shoes off (socks are fine) and seated in a chair for up to an hour, possibly more (feel free to bring a cushion). Broom craft requires strength and dexterity in both hands and feet. Be prepared to engage your core, hands, arms, legs and back for extended periods. Broom making can be a real work-out! Dates: Sunday 18th October 2-5pm NB If you are a beginner, we recommend you take The Art of the Broom workshop first, which runs on the same day 18th October, 10am- 1pm. Book both sessions and we will throw in a home-cooked lunch for you!
